Myths and Facts of Steam Cured CIPP Technology regarding styrene movement in laterals

Description:

There have been many questions about the impact of styrene emissions from steam-cured CIPP projects. To address this concern, a comprehensive project was initiated to collect data from laterals during a standard 8” CIPP inversion. This paper will present the findings from that study. The overall objectives of the study were to (1) evaluate styrene emissions from steam-cured, cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) installations in laterals, (2) determine movement of styrene within laterals, This was accomplished by using direct read instruments and passive dosimetry. The CIPP installation site consisted of over 22 laterals with standpipe access for accurate reading points. The equipment and methods associated with successfully achieving the study’s objectives will be discussed and results of the study will be presented.
