UPDATED - Douglas Trunk Sewer: Sanitary Sewer Upgrade with 1200mm Diameter Microtunnelling Pipe
As cities grow, avoiding surface interruptions to install underground infrastructure has become a common practice. To accommodate future growth in the City of Burnaby and due to the depth of bury, existing utilities and to minimize the impact of construction, the Douglas Trunk Sewer, Sanitary Sewer system was upgraded with a new 1200mm diameter microtunneling pipe. This project will supplement the existing sewer system in the City of Burnaby and help convey wastewater towards the Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant in Richmond. Additionally, this project represents the first time in the lower mainland that microtunneling has been successfully applied in abrasive glacial tills without schedule or cost overruns.
